The cemetery Žale is of exceptional importance to the Slovenian culture. Due to its high cultural, historical and artistic value it is also one of the most beautiful cemeteries in Europe.
Žale is also significant from the view of horticulture. The rich flora encircles the offer and gives it a special aesthetic meaning. The cemetery is therefore worth seeing in all seasons of the year.

All of us who work at Žale have a sound awareness of the cultural significance of the cemetery and therefore organize free tours of Žale every year.

Žale is also an area of cultural heritage as is noted in the Central Cultural Heritage Register at the Cultural Heritage Administration (EŠD 384). For this reason it is also protected for preservation of cultural heritage and there is a special protection regime in force with which we protect the environmental and architectural entity of the cemetery, the artistic and cultural historical significance of individual grave plots and private property of the tenants of grave plots.
